Red Ravine

Sebeș, Alba

Râpa Roșie is located north of Sebeș, in Alba county, on the edge of the Secașe Plateau. The reddish earth wall is furrowed by columns, towers and deep gullies. The shapes were created by rainwater, which gradually removed the more easily eroded material.

Layers of clay, sand and gravel have different strengths, and this alternation explains the broken landscape. The reserve protects both geological formations and rare plants on the slopes. The red and violet color of the land can be seen from a distance, above the fields near the town.
