Reformed Church in Deva

Deva, Hunedoara

The Reformed Church in Deva was consecrated in 1910, according to the project of the architect József Dobovszky. It replaced the community's medieval church, demolished due to decay. The current church has a tall tower on the main facade, round-arched windows and brick decorations. The roof and wrought iron details complete the early twentieth-century architecture.

Inside, the ample space is organized around the pulpit, the centerpiece of the Reformed service. Fragments from the old church, which had been documented in 1332, were embedded in the walls. The facades combine neo-Romanesque forms with decorative details close to the Secession style. The current church and the medieval fragments preserved inside show two different stages of the history of the reformed community in Deva.
