Reformed Church in Sângeorgiu de Pădure

Sângeorgiu de Pădure, Mureș

The Reformed church in Sângeorgiu de Pădure was built in the thirteenth–fourteenth centuries as a Roman Catholic church, with frescoes on the walls. It has belonged to the Reformed community since 1640.

Between 1758 and 1760, Baroness Wesselényi Kata restored it; the coffered ceiling, the pulpit and the gallery date from that time. Countess Claudia Rhédey, the great-great-grandmother of Queen Elizabeth II, is buried in the crypt below the church, and a black marble plaque sent in 1904 by Princess Mary of Great Britain commemorates her.
