Reformed Church in Șimleu Silvaniei

Șimleu Silvaniei, Sălaj

The Reformed church in Șimleu Silvaniei is located on Salcâmului street, at the foot of the wooded slope. The current building was erected between 1729 and 1736, after the destruction of a previous church. The stone tower, 27 meters high, replaced the old wooden belfry in 1815 and dominates the white facade of the church.

The interior preserves a coffered ceiling made in 1737 by Pataki János, decorated with folk motifs. The organ was built in 1769 by Johannes Hahn and the tower clock dates from 1817. Nearby is the manor-like parsonage from 1907. Together, the buildings document the history of the local Reformed community, formed after the spread of the Reformation in this part of Sălaj.
