Reformed Church in Turda Veche

Turda, Cluj

The Reformed Church of Turda Veche is located in the center of Turda, Cluj County, near the History Museum. The building preserves the nave of a former Augustinian monastery church, with Gothic elements on the west facade and buttresses on the north side. After the destruction it suffered in the early seventeenth century, the church was rebuilt with the support of Prince Gheorghe Rákóczi I and became a place of worship for the Reformed community.

The clock tower, built between 1904 and 1906, dominates this part of the historic center. Inside are the 1812 organ and the gray marble pulpit made in 1824 by the sculptor Antal Csűrös. These features come from different stages in the church's history: the medieval nave, the nineteenth-century furniture and the tower built at the beginning of the next century. On the outside you can see the tall windows and the buttresses that support the walls of the nave.
