Rhédey Castle
Sângeorgiu de Pădure, Mureș
Rhédey Castle is located in the center of Sângeorgiu de Pădure, Mureș county. The building as it looks today dates largely from its rebuilding in the early nineteenth century. The estate is linked to the noble Rhédey family and to Claudine Rhédey, an ancestor of the British royal family.
The long facade, the central block and the rooms of the former residence retain neo-baroque forms. The castle was used in the twentieth century for administration and education, and was later restored for cultural use. Exhibitions in the rooms reopened to visitors trace the history of the family and the town.
