Rimetea Village

Alba County, Romania

Rimetea is located in Alba county, at the foot of the Piatra Secuiului massif in the Trascău Mountains. The village retains rows of houses with white facades, set around the center and along the streets. The rocky ridge rises above the roofs and is the natural landmark of the settlement.

The village prospered for a time thanks to ironworking, and many of the preserved houses date from the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries. The restoration of the built heritage was rewarded in 1999 with the Europa Nostra award. The farmyard gates and the white facades form almost unbroken rows beneath the Piatra Secuiului ridge.
