Rohia Monastery

Rohia, Maramureș

In the village of Rohia, which belongs to the town of Târgu Lăpuș in the county of Maramureș, the monastery occupies a wooded slope. The ensemble includes the main church, the wooden church, monastic buildings and museum spaces. The large church was built between 1996 and 2018, and the surrounding constructions were added in several stages as the monastery developed.

Rohia is closely associated with the writer Nicolae Steinhardt, who organized the monastery's library. His cell and book collection preserve this literary connection. The museum brings together icons on wood and glass, old books and objects from the history of the monastic community. The wooden church is part of the space called "Maramureș Corner". The monastery website mentions visiting the museum, library and cell; access to these rooms is arranged on site, depending on the activity of the monastery.
