Roman Catholic Church in Ardud
Ardud, Satu Mare
The Roman Catholic church in Ardud was built in 1482 by Bartolomeu Dragfi, the future voivode of Transylvania, who had also built the Ardud fortress a year before. After the Turkish armies destroyed it in 1565, the Károlyi family, the new owners of the estate, repaired it. The church was rebuilt in 1860 and in 1959 and retains elements of Gothic architecture, and its tower has a high and pointed roof.
In 1898, Catholic nuns came to Ardud, who took over the girls' school next to the church and also opened a kindergarten.
