Ruins of Sân Nicoară Church

Curtea de Argeș, Argeș

The ruins of Sân Nicoară Church stand on a hill in the old center of Curtea de Argeș, in the park of the same name. What survives of the medieval building are walls of river stone and brick, part of the tower and the outline of the nave. The altar has a polygonal apse on the outside, and the wall between the nave and the narthex still has its doorway.

Archaeological research has documented the foundations, the successive alterations to the building and the surrounding burials. Among the finds are fragments of pottery, stove tiles, coins and ornaments. The alternation of masonry materials and the remains of the tower reveal the techniques used to build this church in medieval Argeș.
