Ruins of the fortified church in Petrești

Petrești, Alba

The ruins of the fortified church in Petrești are located on a hill, in the evangelical cemetery of the locality belonging to the municipality of Sebeș. The bell tower is preserved from the old Romanesque basilica, built in the thirteenth century. The river stone enclosure stretches around it, and the traces of a bastion can be recognized in the southern part.

The church was demolished in 1805, and the recovered material was used to build the new church in the village. The old tower and walls partly covered with ivy remained near the cemetery. The stop here is dedicated to the remains of the medieval ensemble; the current evangelical church is in another place, inside the locality.
