Sadova Monastery
The Sadova monastery is located in the Sadova commune, Dolj county, close to the Jiu floodplain. The masonry church dedicated to Saint Nicholas was built by Matei Basarab in 1633, on the site of an older church. The facades with arches, the tower and the massive masonry preserve the character of this building from Oltenia.
The ensemble also includes the hospital built in the time of Constantin Brâncoveanu, at the end of the seventeenth century. The large church went through successive repairs and restorations, and in 1904 it was rededicated in the presence of King Carol I. The visit can follow the exterior of the church and the premises, respecting the services and the directions of the community.
