Saint Anne Monastery in Orșova
Orșova, Mehedinți
Saint Anne Monastery is located on Dealul Moșului, above the town of Orșova, in Mehedinți County. The complex was built between 1936 and 1939 on the initiative of the journalist Pamfil Șeicaru. The founder chose the site in memory of what he had lived through in the area as a soldier in the First World War.
The church and the wings of monks' cells surround a courtyard with galleries and porches. From the hill you can see the bay of Orșova and the stretch of the Danube towards the reservoir. The buildings had other uses during the communist period, and monastic life resumed after 1990.
