Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Arad

Arad, Arad

The Church of Saint Anthony of Padua is located on Revolution Boulevard, in the center of Arad. Built in 1902–1903 on the site of a baroque church, the building was designed by Emil Tabacovici. The entrance is marked by four massive columns and a reproduction of Michelangelo's «Pietà» sculptural group. The approximately 56-meter tower dominates the facade.

Above the entrance and around the tower there are sculptures and decorative elements that can also be seen from the street. Inside, the altar painting, made by György Vastagh, represents Saint Anthony, the patron saint of the church. The church belongs to the Roman Catholic community and is a stop on the route of the monumental buildings of the boulevard. Visitors to the interior should respect the service schedule and the parish rules; the exterior can be seen during a walk through the city center.
