Saint George – Mirăuți Church in Suceava

Suceava, Suceava

The Church of Saint George – Mirăuți is located in the old center of Suceava, near the Princely Court. The church’s origins go back to the fourteenth century, and the first cathedral of the Metropolitanate of Moldavia functioned here. The church is linked to the recognition of the Metropolis in 1401 and to the ceremonies by which the rulers received religious consecration after their election.

The building went through several rebuildings, periods of abandonment and a restoration led by the architect Karl A. Romstorfer. Today you can see the tower, the stone portals and the facades with brick decoration. Since 2023, the church has been part of the Mirăuți monastery reopened by the Archdiocese of Suceava and Rădăuți. It is an active place of worship, with its entrance on Mirăuților Street.
