Saint John the Baptist Cathedral in Făgăraș

The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is located in the center of Făgăraş, near the citadel. The large dome, spiers and arched porch make it easily recognizable from the square. The contemporary construction occupies a visible place in the city landscape, near the buildings and monuments of the historical center.

The cathedral is also a meeting place for the communities of Țara Făgărașului. On the feast of Saint John the Baptist, groups of young men from the villages of the region gather here for a service related to the preservation of winter traditions. The participants wear traditional dress and bring together the customs of the localities of origin. Being an active place of worship, visiting the interior is adapted to religious celebrations.
