Saint Michael Church in Cluj-Napoca

The Church of Saint Michael stands in Unirii Square in Cluj-Napoca, Cluj county. Built mainly in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, it is a monument of Transylvanian Gothic architecture. Buttresses, tall windows and carved portals frame the main body of the church, next to which rises the clock tower.
The interior preserves vaults resting on pillars, fragments of murals and pieces of religious furniture from different eras. The current tower was built in the nineteenth century, in the neo-Gothic style. The Roman Catholic church played a part in the political life of Transylvania, hosting assemblies and ceremonies of the medieval city.
