Saint Nicholas Church in Făgăraș
The Church of Saint Nicholas in Făgăraș was built in 1697-1698 by Constantin Brâncoveanu. The building preserves the open porch, supported by octagonal columns, and the stone frames of the windows. Above the entrance, the dedicatory inscription and the coat of arms of Wallachia commemorate the ruler who financed the construction. The silhouette of the tower and the arches of the porch are part of the Brâncovenesc architecture of the church.
Inside, the original iconostasis is preserved, carved in oak wood, gilded and painted by Preda din Câmpulung. The painting in the altar and nave was done in the early eighteenth century by Preda and his sons. The church is still a place of worship for the Orthodox community, and visiting the interior is adapted to the services and activities of the parish.
