Saint Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Bacău
The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Nicholas is the historical seat of the parish of the same name in Bacău. It was consecrated on December 6, 1846 by Bishop Paul Sardi. It is located in the parish complex on Ana Ipătescu Street, next to the much newer church of Saints Peter and Paul, with which it should not be confused.
The appearance of the building was changed during the repairs in 1903. The masonry vaults, which had caused cracks, were replaced with lighter ones, and the tower was rebuilt in front of the front wall, starting from new foundations. The 1977 earthquake led to further strengthening interventions. The church thus preserves the traces of several restoration stages and the history of the Catholic community before the construction of the large neighboring church.
