Saint Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Gheorgheni

Gheorgheni, Harghita

The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Nicholas in Gheorgheni was built in the middle of the eighteenth century, and a plaque in Latin mentions the year 1756. The older tower was preserved, raised and covered with a baroque spire, and on it is a sundial discovered during the restoration in 1993.

The main altar is from 1780. The baroque pulpit has the statues of the four evangelists, and in the choir there is a life-size statue of Saint Nicholas, probably from a medieval altar. The church, the enclosure wall and the old parish house are historical monuments.
