Santorini
Greece
In the southern Aegean Sea, Santorini (officially Thira) is the largest island of a small circular archipelago formed by a volcanic caldera. About 3,600 years ago it was the site of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history, which left a caldera filled with water. At Akrotiri you can see the remains of a Bronze Age port, and the beaches have red, black or white sand made of lava.
