Sarmizegetusa Regia
Sarmizegetusa Regia is located at Grădiștea de Munte, Orăștioara de Sus commune, Hunedoara county, in the Orăștie Mountains. It was the political, military and religious center of the Dacian kingdom before the Roman conquest. The citadel and the sacred area are laid out on terraces supported by stone walls.
At the site you can see sections of the fortification, the paved road and the traces of sanctuaries, with column bases and stone alignments. The great circular sanctuary and the disk called the Andesite Sun are landmarks of the sacred area. The fortress is part of the group of Dacian fortresses on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Forest surrounds the terraces and covers the slopes around the site.
