Scărișoara Glacier
Ghețari, Alba
The Scărișoara glacier is located near the village of Ghețari, in the commune of Gârda de Sus, Alba county. The cave holds a block of underground ice, formed and preserved by special temperature conditions. The descent starts down a vertical shaft, a deep opening in the rock fitted with stairs. From the tourist platforms you can see the ice surfaces and the cave chamber. Visits are guided and follow the marked route. Because of the temperature difference with the outside and the steps, you will need suitable clothing and sturdy shoes.
