Sephardic Synagogue in Sighetu Marmației

Sighetu Marmației, Maramureș

The Sephardic synagogue in Sighetu Marmației is located on Basarabiei street no. 10 and is also known as Vizhnitzer Klaus temple. Built at the beginning of the twentieth century, the building combines Moorish elements with Renaissance-inspired details. The facade to the street, with arched windows and central pediment, preserves the identity of this place of worship of the Jewish community.

To visit the interior, the local tourist center recommends contacting the Jewish community on the same street. The historic temple should not be confused with the new synagogue inaugurated in the city in 2021.
