Sic Reed Beds

Sic, Cluj

The Sic reed beds lie in Sic commune, Cluj county, in the floodplain of the Fizeș valley. The reserve covers a wetland with reeds, cattails, pools of open water and marshy areas. The dense vegetation shelters birds that nest here or stop over during migration.

Species recorded here include the gray heron, the little grebe, the coot and the great reed warbler. The reeds provide hiding places and nesting sites, and the water and banks supply food for wetland birds. The area is close to the village of Sic, known for its rural heritage. The water level and the appearance of the reeds change from season to season.
