Sinaia Monastery
Sinaia Monastery is in the town of Sinaia, Prahova County, below the slopes of the Bucegi Mountains. It was founded by the high court official Mihai Cantacuzino at the end of the seventeenth century. The name of the monastery recalls the founder's pilgrimage to Mount Sinai and was later adopted by the town around it.
The complex includes the old church, the large church, cells and museum spaces, arranged around two courtyards. The carved portals, the porches and the paintings in the churches reflect different stages of construction. The old church belongs to the Cantacuzino foundation, and the large church was added in the nineteenth century, as the monastery grew.
