Șiria Fortress

Dealul Cetății, above the village of Șiria in Arad County, preserves the ruins of the medieval fortification. The fortification is documented in the fourteenth century and passed through the possession of several families and leaders, including Iancu de Hunedoara. The ruins overlook the area where the plain meets the surrounding hills.

Fragments of the complex’s walls and old rooms can still be seen. The position on the ridge allowed the surveillance of the roads and the settlements at the foot of the hills. The walls were affected by conflicts and the use of stone in other constructions, and currently the fortress is preserved as a ruin.
