Eleven-year-old Nemo (Marlow Barkley) lives by the sea with her father, Peter (Kyle Chandler). He taught her everything she needed to know about rough seas and also taught her to sail. When Peter disappears one day, Nemo has to move in with her uncle, a boring man. The new environment and the school overwhelm her. In her dreams she discovers the way to a magical land: Slumberland. There she meets Flip (Jason Momoa), a horned hybrid of man and monster. Flip claims to know Peter from his days as a thief, when the two navigated from dream to dream stealing things from other people's dreams. Is that why Peter disappeared? Nemo and Flip go in search of Peter and have lots of adventures in Slumberland.
