Small Island of Brăila Nature Park
Balta Mică a Brăilei Natural Park protects islands, lakes and branches of the Danube in Brăila County. Willow and poplar forests alternate with reed beds and stretches of water, where waterbirds live. It is a surviving part of the old floodplain, where the river is still connected to its marshes.
The park administration organizes water excursions, with departure points at Brăila, Stăncuța and the Giurgeni–Vadu Oii bridge. Destinations include Lake Lupoiu and the Mănușoaia and Cremenea branches. Trips are chosen together with the park administration, because water levels and protection rules affect which areas can be reached.
