Șoimoș Fortress
Șoimoș, Arad
The Șoimoș Fortress is located above the Șoimoș neighborhood of the city of Lipova, in Arad County. The ruins are located on the Cioaca Tăutului hill, on the right bank of the Mureș. The citadel is mentioned in a document in 1278 and had an important role in the surveillance of the valley.
Walls, courtyards and traces of living quarters can be seen in the premises. The carved stone fragments recall the Renaissance additions, made when the fortification also served as a princely residence. From the hill you can see the river Mureș, the town of Lipova and the slopes that close the valley.
