Stănișoara Monastery
Stănișoara Monastery lies in the Cozia Mountains, above the Păușa Valley, within the town of Călimănești. The present church was begun in 1903 and consecrated in 1907, to designs by the Italian architect Debona Apolino. The stone facades, the central tower and the buildings on the terrace stand out at the edge of the forest, under the peaks of the massif.
The church was painted in 1948 by Dumitru Belizan, and the complex also includes a chapel for winter services. The monastery can be reached from Păușa or on the paths from Turnu; the route from Turnu involves a steeper climb. This is a mountain trip, so the route should be chosen according to the weather and the fitness of those making it.
