Star-nosed mole
Condylura cristata
On the tip of its snout it has a “star” of 22 fleshy tentacles, about 1.5 cm wide, with more than 25,000 touch receptors called Eimer's organs. It is a small, hamster-sized mole that lives in wet, low-lying areas of northeastern North America, both on land and in water. Because it is practically blind, it finds its way and its food by feeling with this star.
