Students' Monument in Aiud

The Students' Monument is located in the Aiud Municipal Park, on Capelei Hill, reached from Gheorghe Doja Street. It was erected two hundred years after the battles of 1704, in memory of the young men of Bethlen Gábor College who fell fighting the Habsburg armies. It is the oldest public monument in the city.

The stone structure is shaped like a canopy: four columns support the dome, topped by a draped urn. In the middle stands an altar bearing the college emblem, an open book with plant motifs. Latin inscriptions and the names of those commemorated appear on the altar base. The monument can be seen from the park paths, among the trees around the small stepped platform.
