Sugălete Architectural Ensemble
The arcades of the Sugălete Ensemble line the northern side of the Central Square in Bistrița, in Bistrița-Năsăud county. The medieval houses were built around 1480 and the open vaults on the ground floor formed a sales place for craftsmen and merchants. The covered route, the stone pillars and the adjoining facades keep the connection between the townspeople's homes and the city's commercial market.
The house of the Evangelical parish, located at the beginning of the row, has an inscription from 1480 and a statue of Saint Nicholas in a niche of the facade. At House Petermann, the insignia of an armorer appear on a stone portal. At the eastern end of the complex, there are workshops and an art gallery. Walking under the arches allows you to observe these details from the public space, while entering the galleries depends on their schedule.
