Synagogue in Gherla

Gherla, Cluj

The synagogue in Gherla was built in 1903, with a richly decorated architecture, for the growing Jewish community of the city.

Jews received the right to live in Gherla only after 1848, and in 1930 there were 1,037. In May 1944, the community was deported to Nazi camps.
