Teodoreni Monastery

Suceava, Suceava

The Teodoreni Monastery is located in the Burdujeni district of Suceava, on Ecaterina Teodoroiu street. The monastery was founded by the chamberlain Teodor Movilă, and the church is dedicated to the Ascension of the Lord. Documents from 1604 speak of endowment of the monastery with goods and estates. The old village of Teodoreni developed around it, linked to the history of Burdujeni. The masonry church, the bell tower and the premises preserve the character of a monastic complex with a history of over four centuries.

The votive painting depicting Teodor Movilă with his son, Ioan, is preserved in the church. The archdiocese also mentions fragments of the oak flooring offered in 1785 by Catherine II. After the secularization of the monastic assets, the church became a parish church; monastic life was resumed in 1992, with a community of nuns. Over time, the restoration works concerned the church, the walls and the interior heritage. The ensemble works as a place of worship, and the visit is done with respect for the religious activity.
