1978 - Robert De Niro, John Cazale, John Savage, Christopher Walken, Meryl Streep
In a small industrial town in Pennsylvania, three workers—Michael (Robert De Niro), Steven (John Savage) and Nick (Christopher Walken)—are drafted to fight in the war. Before they leave their friends, Steven marries, and the wedding also becomes a farewell party for the new recruits. The film then jumps to Vietnam. All three friends are captured and eventually escape, but with tragic consequences. Steven is left paraplegic, Nick goes into hiding somewhere in Southeast Asia, emotionally scarred, and Michael returns home overwhelmed by guilt for leaving his friends to their fate. His life becomes even more complicated when, as he tries to readjust to civilian life, Michael falls in love with Linda (Meryl Streep), once Nick's fiancée.
