Tibiscum Archaeological Site

Jupa, Caraș-Severin

Tibiscum was a Dacian settlement, then a city of Roman Dacia, at the place where the Bistra river flows into Timiș, near Caransebeș. Today, the ruins are located in the village of Jupa, which belongs to the municipality of Caransebeș.

The ruins of some buildings and workshops from the Roman camp and from the city next to it can be seen. At the time of Emperor Gallienus (253–268), Tibiscum had the status of a municipium, and the ruins are the most important Roman traces in the Banat.
