The battle for Earth has just ended, but the battle for the universe has only begun. After returning to Cybertron, Starscream takes control of the Decepticons and is determined to return to Earth with greater forces. The Autobots, convinced that peace is possible, learn that Megatron's remains have been stolen from the U.S. Army and that the Decepticons are trying to revive him. With Megatron as powerful as before and supported by Starscream and new Decepticons, the Autobots face serious trouble in their efforts to protect freedom. Optimus Prime tries to save Sam but is killed. Trying to understand mysterious symbols, Sam reaches Egypt and realizes he may be able to revive Optimus with the Matrix, which he finds only for it to turn to dust. Still hopeful, Sam begins a desperate race to reach Optimus, trying to get past the Decepticons alongside Mikaela.
