For centuries, two races of robots—the Autobots and the Decepticons—have fought a war with the fate of the universe at stake. When Earth becomes the battlefield, the unexpected factor that could decide the war lies in the hands of Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf). An ordinary young man, Sam worries about the things others his age do: school, friends, cars and girls. Unaware that he can determine humanity's fate, Sam and his classmate Mikaela, whom he hopes to make his girlfriend, find themselves in the middle of the robots' confrontation. With the whole world's fate hanging by a thread, Sam learns the meaning of the Witwicky family motto: “Victory requires sacrifice.”
