Troianu Forest

Troianul, Teleorman

The Troianu forest stretches near the town of Troianul, in Teleorman county. The reserve protects the Romanian peony, whose red flowers appear between trees and in clearings. The forest of oaks known locally as cer and gârniță was given the status of a nature reserve in 2004, to protect this rare plant and its habitat.

The educational trail set up by the Teleorman Forestry Directorate is approximately one kilometer long and follows the forest road and the lines between the forest plots. The recommended visiting period for the trail is May–June. Access requires compliance with the rules of the reserve: the peonies are admired and photographed, and the plants remain where they grow.
