Tropaeum Traiani

Adamclisi, Constanța

Tropaeum Traiani is located near Adamclisi, Constanța county, and commemorates the victory of the Romans in the battles of Dobrogea at the beginning of the second century. The ancient monument was dedicated to Mars the Avenger (Mars Ultor). The shape visible today is a reconstruction inaugurated in 1977, based on archaeological research.

A cylindrical body, a conical roof and the stone trophy rise above the circular plinth. The reliefs with battle scenes are reproductions of ancient pieces. The originals are kept in the Adamclisi museum, along with inscriptions and other discoveries. Nearby are the ruins of the Tropaeum Traiani fortress, with streets, gates and basilicas.
