Tulcea Synagogue – Choral Temple

Tulcea, Tulcea

The synagogue in Tulcea, also known as the Israelite Temple or the Choral Temple, is located on Babadag street. It was inaugurated in 1888, when the city's Jewish community was large and the surrounding streets formed the center of its quarter. The building is distinguished by its arched windows and facade decoration, in an area much changed by the constructions of the twentieth century. The temple thus preserves a testimony of the historic layout of the city and the communities that lived here.

The Tulcea County Council shows that the synagogue was renovated between 2010 and 2014 and that a presentation of the history of the Jews in the municipality and the county was set up inside. The venue also hosts cultural events and Holocaust commemorations. The facade can be seen from Babadag Street, where the temple is located between modern buildings.
