Turda Gorge
Petreștii de Jos–Cheia, Cluj
Turda Gorge is located in Cluj county, west of Turda, between the villages of Petreștii de Jos and Cheia. The Hășdate River has cut a valley into the limestone, with high walls, rock towers and narrow ridges. The reserve protects both the karst landscape and the plants and animals on the cliffs.
The path along the bottom of the gorge follows the water and crosses from bank to bank on footbridges. Above you can see walls used by climbers, cave entrances and scree slopes. Plants adapted to drought and wind grow in the cracks of the limestone. The gorge was formed by the Hășdate eroding rocks laid down in an ancient sea.
