Tureni Gorge

Tureni–Copăceni, Cluj

Cheile Turenilor, also called Cheile Turului, is located between Tureni and Copăceni, in Cluj county. The Valea Racilor stream has carved the Jurassic limestone here, forming steep walls, small waterfalls and rounded depressions in the rock. The area is protected as a nature reserve for its landforms and biodiversity.

Caves open in the slopes, including Peștera cu Silex and Peștera Vulturilor. Archaeological research has identified traces of prehistoric habitation, and the rocky slopes harbor rare plants. The trail on the valley floor includes technical and exposed sections; plan the hike using information from Salvamont and the administrator, and bring the equipment required for the chosen section.
