Turkish Bazaar in Lipova

Lipova, Arad

The Turkish Bazaar in Lipova, also known as Sub Dughene, is located in Libertății Square. The building is related to the period of Ottoman rule and the commercial activity of the old town on Mureș. Its rooms were used by merchants, and the goods could be displayed in the shelter of the front passage.

The facade is recognizable by the row of arches supported on eight cylindrical pilasters. Above the central part rises a triangular frontispiece, under the long tiled roof. The aspect can be seen from the public square, where the entire front of the building opens up. The rooms have been adapted over time for housing and commercial activities; the visit focuses on the historic exterior and arcaded gallery.
