Unguru Mare Cave

Șuncuiuș, Bihor

At a bend in the Crișul Repede River, near Șuncuiuș, in Bihor county, the Unguru Mare Cave opens. The wide portal opens into the rock wall on the left bank of the river. The entrance hall receives natural light and has been used as a shelter since prehistoric times.

Archaeological research has discovered traces of habitation from several eras. The gallery continues inside the massif, where an underground stream also flows. The dimensions of the entrance, the wide space of the first room and the position above the river are the elements that distinguish this cave in Pădurea Craiului.
