Union Square in Cluj-Napoca
Cluj-Napoca, Cluj
Piața Unirii is the central point of Cluj and was the heart of the medieval city, gathered around the Church of Saint Michael. It is approximately 220 by 160 meters and is one of the largest old squares in central and south-eastern Europe.
In the Middle Ages it was called Piața Mare, to distinguish it from Piața Mică, the present Piața Muzeului. Later it was called Main Square and then King Matia Square. Next to the church is the equestrian statue of King Matthias Corvinus.
