Uvedenia Princely Church in Caracal
The Uvedenia Princely Church in Caracal, dedicated to the Presentation of the Mother of God in the Temple, is located on Protosenilor hill, in the area of the old princely court. Its origin is linked to the sixteenth century, but the exact date and the first foundation have different interpretations. Research has identified the original function as a princely chapel.
The building has an elongated plan, a polygonal apse at the altar and an open porch with arches supported on columns. The masonry alternates stone with rows of bricks, and successive interventions have changed the height and compartmentalization of the church. The restorations aimed to recover the historical forms. The surrounding area helps visitors understand the setting of the princely residence that once stood in Caracal.
