Vasile Ciurea Museum of Fălticeni

Fălticeni, Suceava

Fălticeni Vasile Ciurea Museum presents the history of the city in the building on Republicii Street, also used by the Eugen Lovinescu Municipal Library. The first local museum was founded in 1914 by Vasile Ciurea, Artur Gorovei and Aurel Diaconovici. In 1929, through public donations, the building where the collections were brought from the high school halls was bought.

The current exhibition occupies two rooms. The first brings together objects belonging to professor Vasile Ciurea: the desk, the library, documents, manuscripts, family photos and decorative pieces. The second includes ethnographic and religious objects, archaeological finds and coins. The re-establishment of the museum brought pieces from the old collection back into the visiting circuit, after the dispersion of the heritage between several institutions. The themes follow local life from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
